With festival season in full swing we all go a little bit barmy and plan for the apocalypse. Are we taking enough clothes? How many crates of beer do we take? Suncream? What top will go with these shorts? Oh no, we forgot to pack baby wipes! Do we ever think about all the things that will keep us safe though? Distorted Sound teamed up with Helen Garland, Freelance PR and Blogger and Aequitas Legal who spoke to Rob Star, Owner of Eastern Electrics, the two day festival in London and asked him to share his top tips to help festival goers stay safe.

1. “Drink lots of water, dehydration can creep up on you, especially if the sun is shining and you are dancing to your favourite bands and DJ’s.”

It’s a great idea to carry a bottle around with you, especially as festivals are busy places. It might be a couple of hours before you head back to a water station or bar.

2. “Check in advance if the festival accepts card payments, much safer to use your card or phone to make payments, than carrying lots of cash.”

The majority of festivals in the UK do have cash machines so if you really need to cash then you can do on site. The easiest way to find out is to visit the FAQ’s page on the festivals website or drop them a message on social media.

3. “Be prepared for the weather, it can get super cold at night, even in the summer. It also rains a lot in the UK, so make sure you bring the right attire.”

Always remember a jacket and/or a waterproof. You can always tie it around your waist if you get too warm. On the off chance you forget, you usually find a disposable poncho. But it’s better to bring your own just in case.

4. “Lots of festivals have lockers now, great to store keys, coats and other valuables.”

“Nothing worse than getting all the way home after a long day, only to realise you’ve lost your house keys in the middle of the festival.”

It’s very easy to drop your belongings if you’re in a crowd. Just think about what you really need with you and keep the rest safely locked away.

5. “Get your friends to download an app like Find My Friends or Life360, you can then stay in contact and locate your mates in the crowd.”

“Although sometimes it can be just as much fun to find some new ones!”

A leader from the legal sector, Sucheet Amin of Aequitas Legal stated: “It’s great to see leaders within the festival industry taking the time to educate others about festival safety. We encourage anyone heading to a festival this summer to take note of these, prevention is critical.”
